Gérard Pommier (17 August 1941 – 1 August 2023) was a distinguished French psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who made significant contributions to the field of psychoanalysis. He held the position of a professor at Paris Diderot University and was the director of the renowned journal, La Clinique Lacanienne.


Early Life and Education

Born on 17 August 1941, Pommier began his journey in the realm of psychiatry by interning at a psychiatric hospital. He went on to achieve his license in 1991, marking the formal beginning of his professional career. His academic pursuits led him to accomplish his doctoral thesis titled L'écriture comme solution dans la psychose in 2000, under the guidance of Roland Gori at the University of Provence. Subsequently, in 2003, Pommier defended his habilitation thesis titled Comment les neurosciences démontrent la psychanalyse.


Academic and Professional Achievements

Pommier had the privilege of meeting and interacting with eminent figures in the field of psychoanalysis. He engaged in enlightening seminars at the Sainte-Anne Hospital Center, where he crossed paths with the revered Jacques Lacan. Pommier, during his career, was also involved in conducting psychoanalytic supervisions in collaboration with Jacques Lacan, Piera Aulagnier, and Françoise Dolto. His expertise and dedication earned him a place as a member of the Espace analytique and as a co-founder of the Fondation européenne pour la psychanalyse. Additionally, Pommier took on the role of directing the influential journal La Clinique Lacanienne and was a valuable member of the lecture committee of Cliniques méditerranéennes.
