Jack Richard Face (2 December 1942 – 1 August 2023) was a well-known Australian politician, dedicated to serving the community through his involvement in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for over three decades.


Early Life and Education

Jack Richard Face was born in the vibrant Newcastle suburb of Merewether. He pursued his early education at Merewether Public School and later attended Broadmeadow High School. He furthered his studies at Newcastle Technical College and later joined the prestigious New South Wales Police Academy.


Political Career

Face embarked on his political journey, representing the Labor party and the electorate of Charlestown from 1972 to 2003. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to the community, particularly in the realm of gaming and racing. Notably, Face held the esteemed position of the Minister for Gaming and Racing in Bob Carr's cabinet from 1995 until his retirement.


Legal Challenges and Resilience

In 2004, Face faced legal challenges when he was found guilty of providing false information to the Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC). This event led to a fine of A$2500 and a three-year good behaviour bond, demonstrating his resilience in the face of adversity.
